Once I accompanied my family to a function; that day I could notice one of my cousins spending almost an hour standing in front of the mirror. She possessed a makeup set and was applying cosmetics to look more Stunning.
A thought strikes – Just giving importance to body… is it sufficient?
Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita that within the body there is a soul (2.13), which is the driving force of our lives.
The scriptures say that the body is just a Machine, like a motor car is a machine. As we compare we realize – a car has four wheels, a human being has two legs and two hands. Car consumes fuel for movement similarly a human being consumes food for his survival. As the driver sits in the car and moves it similarly the soul within the body is the cause for the consciousness of a person.
Every one of us is changing the body, sometimes as a child, sometimes as a youth, and sometimes as an old man. Yet the same spirit soul is there within the body all along and does not undergo any change. Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita (2.20) na jayate mriyate va kadacin..
For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and Primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.
One may take care of body even by dressing with golden shirt but if one neglects to know and take care of the soul then he fails to understand the purpose of one’s existence.
